[Ros-kinect] problems with openni_ros

Nathaniel Lewis
When I try to use the new openni_node, I am unable to use it.  I really
don't know what is happening here, it is rather odd...

[ INFO] [1300167798.191740123]: [/openni_node1] Number devices
connected: 1
[ INFO] [1300167798.191806345]: [/openni_node1] 1. device on bus 001:15
is a Xbox NUI Camera (2ae) from Microsoft (45e) with serial id
'A00363804786045A'
[ INFO] [1300167798.193304822]: [/openni_node1] searching for device
with serial number = A00363804786045A
[ INFO] [1300167802.198337427]: [/openni_node1] No matching device
found.... waiting for devices
[ INFO] [1300167805.220413591]: [/openni_node1] Number devices

[ INFO] [1300167805.220480501]: [/openni_node1] 1. device on bus 001:15
is a Xbox NUI Camera (2ae) from Microsoft (45e)

It sees the kinect but then says that it finds no matching device

Could you post your launch file? Are you trying to open a device with a specific serial number? It looks like it is.

Do you have the same behavior if you just tell openni_camera to open the first Kinect it finds?

Yeah, I get the same problem even if I tell it to find the first kinect.
Here is the launch file:

<launch>
  <arg name="debug" default="false"/>
  <arg if="$(arg debug)" name="launch_prefix" value="xterm -rv -e gdb
-ex run -args"/>
  <arg unless="$(arg debug)" name="launch_prefix" value=""/>
  <node pkg="openni_camera" type="openni_node" name="openni_node1"
output="screen" launch-prefix="$(arg launch_prefix)">
    <param name="device_id" value="A00363804786045A"/>
    <rosparam command="load" file="$(find
openni_camera)/info/openni_params.yaml" />
    <param name="rgb_frame_id" value="/openni_rgb_optical_frame" />
    <param name="depth_frame_id" value="/openni_depth_optical_frame" />
    <param name="use_indices" value="false" />
    <param name="depth_registration" value="true" />
    <param name="image_mode" value="2" />
    <param name="depth_mode" value="2" />
    <param name="debayering" value="2" />
    <param name="depth_time_offset" value="0" />
    <param name="image_time_offset" value="0" />
  </node>
  <include file="$(find openni_camera)/launch/kinect_frames.launch"/>
</launch>

It also is doing this with the old NI stack as well.  I just upgraded my
computer to an i7 and the previous was a pentium D laptop but I don't
know if that should make any difference.

Hi,
the problem is, that an exception is thrown but the reason is not displayed. If you update openni_kinect and try again, it will tell you what the exception caused.
