You seem to be missing the core ROS stacks that enable the NI stack to compile. The magic sauce if you wish :)

Can you please try to install the unstable base variant (see the ROS install wiki page), and retry?

Of course - that's what we're here for ;)

Cheers,
Radu.

Hi, sorry i did'nt post my answer here.

I installed ROS unstable base and rosinstall.

but when i move on in the tutorial (http://www.ros.org/wiki/ni)there is
a failure when I try to "rosmake ni --rosdep-install".

The failure is:

 mkdir -p bin
  cd build && cmake -Wdev -DCMAKE_TOOLCHAIN_FILE=`rospack find
rosbuild`/rostoolchain.cmake  ..
  [rosbuild] Building package openni_pcl
  Failed to invoke /opt/ros/unstable/ros/bin/rospack deps-manifests
openni_pcl
  [rospack] couldn't find dependency [pcl_visualization] of [openni_pcl]
  [rospack] missing dependency

  CMake Error at /opt/ros/unstable/ros/core/rosbuild/public.cmake:113
(message):

    Failed to invoke rospack to get compile flags for package
'openni_pcl'.
    Look above for errors from rospack itself.  Aborting.  Please fix
the
    broken dependency!

  Call Stack (most recent call first):
    /opt/ros/unstable/ros/core/rosbuild/public.cmake:183
(rosbuild_invoke_rospack)
    CMakeLists.txt:7 (rosbuild_init)

  -- Configuring incomplete, errors occurred!

What is roscd "stereo_msgs" and what can I do with it? It just switches
to the Folder "/opt/ros/unstable/stacks/image_pipeline/stereo_msgs"

For compiling openni_pcl, you need to overlay perception_pcl and perception_pcl_addon.

Cheers,
Radu.

Radu,

I ran into the same problem following the instructions in the wiki for installing the ni stack.   How does one update the wiki?

Thanks,

Steve

Re: [Ros-kinect] ROS and ni package

Hi,

I have a related problem. After I got pcl_visualization error above I installed

ros-unstable-perception-pcl
ros-unstable-perception-pcl-addons

packages from the ubuntu repo. I followed the http://www.ros.org/wiki/ni wiki.
I have both ros-unstable-base ros-cturtle-base installed presently.

Now I have a different error in the nite compilation:

[rosmake-1] Starting >>> nite [ make ]
[ rosmake ] All 7 linesopenni_camera: 2.4 sec ] [ nite: 0.4 sec ]                                                                 [ 2 Active 57/61 Complete]

any idea how can I fix this ? (could this be due to cturtle and unstable both being installed ?)

cheers,

Re: [Ros-kinect] ROS and ni package

K Chen
Hi,

I also encounter this problem under diamondback.

When compiling:

rosmake ni --rosdep-install

I have the md5sum mismatch problem when building dependency 'nite':

{-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  mkdir -p build
  if [ ! -f NITE-Bin-Ubuntu-x86-1.3.0.17.tar.bz2.md5sum ]; then echo "Error: Couldn't find md5sum file NITE-Bin-Ubuntu-x86-1.3.0.17.tar.bz2.md5sum" && false; fi
  `rospack find rosbuild`/bin/download_checkmd5.py http://downloads.primesense.com/NITE-Bin-Ubuntu-x86-1.3.0.17.tar.bz2 build/NITE-Bin-Ubuntu-x86-1.3.0.17.tar.bz2 `awk {'print $1'} NITE-Bin-Ubuntu-x86-1.3.0.17.tar.bz2.md5sum`
  [rosbuild] Checking md5sum on build/NITE-Bin-Ubuntu-x86-1.3.0.17.tar.bz2
  [rosbuild] WARNING: md5sum mismatch (763c3545fb753cc630bf5c52b0e7c05a != 4dd10a88dd924410949cf65246e8e6cd); re-downloading file build/NITE-Bin-Ubuntu-x86-1.3.0.17.tar.bz2
  [rosbuild] ERROR: md5sum mismatch (763c3545fb753cc630bf5c52b0e7c05a != 4dd10a88dd924410949cf65246e8e6cd) on build/NITE-Bin-Ubuntu-x86-1.3.0.17.tar.bz2; aborting
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------}

I followed this instruction's diamond section, and rosinstall was got from "sudo apt-get install python-setuptools" and "sudo easy_install -U rosinstall"

I also had perception_pcl and perception_pcl_addons installed before like the instruction said.

Any solutions? Thanks in advance.
