That's the OpenNI version distributed in the standalone PCL version,
right? (Do a apt-cache policy openni-dev to check.) This version is most
probably not compatible with ROS. If you want to use PCL in ROS try the
perception_pcl and perception_pcl_unstable stacks.

Re: [Ros-kinect] Openni crashes while enumerating devices

DS
I did apt-cache policy openni-dev

openni-dev:
  Installed: 1.3.2.1-4+natty1
  Candidate: 1.3.2.1-4+natty1
  Version table:
 *** 1.3.2.1-4+natty1 0
        500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/v-launchpad-jochen-sprickerhof-de/pcl/ubuntu/ natty/main i386 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     1.1.0.41~natty 0
        500 http://packages.ros.org/ros/ubuntu/ natty/main i386 Packages

Do i need to install some other version ?? i want to use openni with ROS..

this version is installed (1.3.2.1-4+natty1 from the PCL PPA)

this version (1.1.0.41~natty) is the current on in ROS (for diamondback,
natty), which you should install if you want to use OpenNI with ROS.

Re: [Ros-kinect] Openni crashes while enumerating devices

Hi Jochen,

Openni installation is failing with below error (i have ros-comm installed though)

  mkdir -p bin
  cd build && cmake -Wdev -DCMAKE_TOOLCHAIN_FILE=`rospack find rosbuild`/rostoolchain.cmake  ..
  [rosbuild] Building package beginner_tutorials
  Failed to invoke /opt/ros/diamondback/ros/bin/rospack deps-manifests beginner_tutorials
  [rospack] couldn't find dependency [std_msgs] of [beginner_tutorials]
  [rospack] missing dependency

I have used this command for the installation

rosinstall ~/openni_kinect /opt/ros/diamondback/ros 'http://www.ros.org/wiki/openni_kinect?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=openni_kinect.rosinstall'
